Rock Hill, SC – Wilma Massey Peebles,98, widow of the late Alton H. Peebles, passed away May 7, 2024, at White Oak Manor, Rock Hill, SC.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Neely’s Creek ARP Church, officiated by Rev. Heiko Burklin. A memorial service and receiving of friends will follow in the sanctuary after the burial.
Born the daughter of Frank A. Massey and Jessie Sylvenie Fields Massey, Mrs. Peebles was raised in the Leslie community of Rock Hill. She was a 1942 graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended Winthrop College.
She faithfully served as church secretary/administrative assistant at Woodland United Methodist Church in Rock Hill for 34 years. “I felt the Lord called me to that work,” she said. And considered her years at Woodland a ministry. She dearly loved her Woodland church family.
She was a lifelong member of Neely’s Creek ARP Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and led other children’s programs, from nursery and kindergarten to junior and intermediate age for 22 years. Later in life, she faithfully attended Bible Study Fellowship, held at Neely’s Creek, well into her 80s.
Mrs. Peebles was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers: Andrew F. Massey; Roy H. Massey; and Joseph Clifton “Jack” Massey.
She is survived by her daughters, Delores McDonald (Dean) of Indian Land, SC, and Nona Howell (Kyle) of Rock Hill; two granddaughters, Nicole Rodriguez (Robert) of Rock Hill, and Lorie Elliott (Bob) of Edgemoor, SC.; her six great grandchildren: Jake Rodriguez (Katie); Kaylan Lyons (Logan); Kinslie Rodriguez (Ross); Garrett Rodriguez; Blakely Elliott; and Bo Elliott; and three great-great-grandchildren, Lydia Rodriguez, Ridge Lyons and Reaves Lyons. She is also survived by her sister, Louise Crocker, of Rock Hill.
The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill for the compassionate love and care they provided.
