Rock Hill, SC – William George (Bill) Nichols, of 4000 Elks Park Rd, passed away on April 9, 2024. He was born on March 22, 1927 in Birmingham, AL to the late William Barney Nichols and the late Hariette Lucile Nichols. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Wanda Nichols; a son, Ronnie; and brother, Carl Nichols.
He is survived by his two sons, Tom (Barbara) Nichols, and Mike Nichols; brother, Grady (Suzanne) Nichols of Woodstock, GA; six grandchildren, Ashley (Matt) Nichols Giles, Todd Nichols, Will Nichols, Ellie Nichols, Thomas Nichols, Lisa (Austin) Nichols Hair; and three great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nichols was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked in the paper industry for most of his life, moving to Rock Hill in 1959 for the start up for Bowater Carolina paper Mill. Mr. Nichols retired from Bowater as utilities Manager in 1990. He was a lifelong sportsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching Alabama Crimson Tide football.
There will be a Visitation on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11 AM at Lakewood Baptist Church, 3520 Mt. Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732. A Funeral Ceremony will be held after the visitation at 12 PM with Pastor Jerry Devinney officiating. The interment will take place at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 South Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732.
