Rock Hill, SC – William Douglas Self, 81, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at his home.

Doug was born on April 22, 1943, in Kershaw County, SC.  He grew up with a passion for playing basketball and played for Great Falls High School.  After graduating from Great Falls High School, he attended Spartanburg Junior College and started his lifelong career with Duke Energy.  After working at Duke for several years, Doug continued his education at York Technical College, earning a degree in computer science, allowing him to work in different roles as computer programmer at Duke Energy until retirement.

In his personal life, Doug was a family man first, who cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren.  In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, bowling, darts, and playing pool.  He will be dearly missed.

Doug is survived by his children, Laura Gates (Chuck) Rock Hill, SC, Robin McWatters (Erk) Fort Lawn, SC, Terri “Dino” Self of Georgetown, SC, Jan Moore (Tim) of Ashland, KY, and Carson “Benny” Self (Marie) of Winnsboro, SC; his sisters, Elaine Howard (Olin) of Andrews, SC, Barbara Mosier of Raleigh, NC, and Angela Bailey (Mike) of Fort Lawn, SC; his brothers, Roland Dry (Carol) of Rock Hill, SC, Bruce Freeman of Vero Beach, FL, and Troy Freeman of Fort Pierce, Florida; his 9 grandchildren; his 13 great-grandchildren, and his wonderful caregivers, Teresa Bell and Raelynn Bell.

He is preceded in death by his late parents, L.V. Self and Lottie Self; his daughter, Sherri Self; his brothers, Wilson Self, Franklin Dry, and Marion Dry; and his great-grandson, Kacey Calone.

A memorial service will be held for Mr. Self at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732, with Mike Bailey officiating.  The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
