York, SC – It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Deese Huggins, 51, who departed this life on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill.
Born on March 22, 1973, in Cocoa Beach, Florida, Tina was the beloved daughter of Timothy Willis Deese, Jr. and the late Carol Ann Felkel. Tina’s lifelong passion for dance guided her journey from an early age. A proud graduate of Winthrop University with a bachelor’s degree in dance, Tina further honed her craft at the NC School of the Arts and made significant contributions to the Columbia City Ballet, York County Ballet, and Gaston Dance Theater, where she served as Artistic Director. Her talent and dedication shone brightly as she starred in, directed, and taught numerous performances of the Nutcracker ballet. She cherished her role as the Sugarplum Fairy, which held a special place in her heart. Tina’s recent roles included teaching at Barbie’s Encore Dance Production in Mt. Holly, NC and New Attitude Performing Arts Center in Rock Hill, SC.
Outside of her professional achievements, Tina was a devoted master gardener with a deep love for flowers. She also found joy in attending Dave Matthews Band shows, where she embraced the music and shared her vibrant spirit.
Tina is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth “Kenny” Lee Huggins; her cherished daughter, Gillian Deese (Nolan Harris); her father, Timothy Willis Deese Jr.; her siblings, Dawn Luck and Timothy Scott Deese; her precious grandchild, Haven Harris; and her niece and nephew, Michelle Luck Bailey and Damon Luck. She is also survived by numerous cousins and extended family, all of whom were touched by her grace and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Carol Ann Felkel.
A memorial service celebrating Tina’s life will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Lake Wylie Christian Assembly, located at 5766 Charlotte Hwy, Lake Wylie, SC 29710. The family will welcome friends from 12:00 – 2:00 PM, with the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
