Hendersonville, TN – Ruth Johnson Smith, 92, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5 from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM at Greene Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 6 at 11:00 AM at Forest Hills Cemetery in Rock Hill. Reverend Don Gillespie will be officiating the service.
Ruth was a native of Clover, South Carolina and the daughter of Sylvester P. Johnson and Julia Smart Johnson of Clover. Ruth had four sisters (Louise Bennett, Mary Neil Kelly, Gladys Glenn, and Linda Currence) and two brothers (Howard Johnson and Ray Johnson) and several nieces and nephews. She enjoyed spending time with all of them and always made sure to have something good to snack on when they would visit. She was married to Robert M. Smith (Bob) for 67 years and had two children, daughter, Lisa Lee (Todd) of Hendersonville, Tennessee and son, Steve Smith of Charlotte, North Carolina. She had two grandchildren, Chandler Lee and Addy Lee both from Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Ruth worked for Celanese in Rock Hill for over forty years. Prior to working at Celanese, she worked with her father and brothers at Howard Johnson’s Café in Clover, South Carolina. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she attended the women’s Circle meetings.
Ruth enjoyed cooking for her family, traveling to Tennessee to visit her grandchildren, shopping, going to the beach with her family and in her later years she looked forward to the annual girl’s trip with her nieces at Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach.
