Ronald “Ron” Eugene Hegner, 77, of Rock Hill, SC, passed away on June 3, 2024, after a short illness.
Ron was born on December 11, 1946, in New Castle, PA. He graduated from Indiana Senior High in 1964, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force for 3 1/2 years. He was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War. After his service, Ron graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with degrees in Mathematics and Food and Nutrition.
Putting his experience and education to work for himself, he and his wife Judy purchased The Bus Depot on 7th Street, Indiana, PA, in 1974. The business would move, evolve and grow over the next 20 years. Not to be overlooked was Ron’s participation in the development of Indiana County Transit Authority, Indiana’s first public bus system in 1979. After selling The Bus Depot in 1995, Ron reimagined his career path by becoming a certified Dietician. He worked in Columbus, OH and Pittsburgh, PA before retiring in 2014 and relocating to Rock Hill, SC.
To start his retirement, Ron volunteered for the Carolina Dive and Rescue. He also liked working around the house and in the yard. When he was not tinkering, he deeply enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to classic rock and jazz, talking about politics and his beloved Steelers. He loved indulging in cheeseburgers, cake and rusty nail cocktails.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Florence and Ralph Hegner as well as his siblings; Ralph (Argee) Hegner, Gregory Hegner and Brenda Paullo. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Judy; son Brian and his wife Pam of Charlotte, NC; and one cherished grandson, Luke.
There will not be a funeral, public service or memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in his name to Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease Foundation (https://cjdfoundation.org/donations).
