Rock Hill, SC – Robert Leon Brakefield, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 15, 2024.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Northside Baptist Church, 1140 Curtis St, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with Dr. Jerry Sosebee and Dr. Scott Davis officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Born in Chester, SC, Mr. Brakefield was the son of the late Hall Brakefield and the late Louise Hudson Brakefield. He was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 68 years, Virginia Joyce Moody Brakefield. He was retired from Bowater with 27 years of service. He was a talented woodworker and was an avid gardener. You would often find him in his woodworking shop or in his greenhouse. He was an active member of Northside Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon Emeritus, a Trustee, and a Sunday School teacher. He also served on numerous committees at the church. He was also a member of the York Woodworkers Association.
Surviving are his three sons, Robert L Brakefield, Jr. of Easley, SC, David (Candee) Brakefield of Rock Hill, SC, and Reid (Mica) Brakefield of Rock Hill, SC; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Brakefield’s name to The Baptist Foundation of SC for the Cooperative Program.
