Robert Benjamin “Bennie” Hathcock grew up in Rock Hill, SC. He passed at Magnolia Manor – Inman on January 31st at the age of 58 of natural causes.
As he was known by his friends and family, Bennie was the avid music collector. Michael Jackson was sometimes his favorite but he enjoyed all the 80s and 90s pop classics. He loved cartoon classics such as Snoopy and Peanuts, and always looked forward to the holidays, as soon as fall started. First his birthday, then Halloween, and then Thanksgiving and best of all, Christmas and what Santa Claus would bring! A toy chain saw was often high on his Christmas list, although the noise would scare him and he might run to hide. His favorite toys were on his dresser for him to look at – he shared rarely, briefly, and only if he liked you and you were very careful! He had a tall batman figurine and detailed model motorcycle and of course he cuddled toy dogs and stuffies with deep affection.
He loved Easter in the springtime and looked forward to his basket of candies. Benny enjoyed Sunday drives and always made time for a sweet treat. He saved the dollars he was given for Saturday shopping trips with the boys. He sang hymns with his mom around the dining room table on Sundays when she could still read Bible verses for their home worship. He adored small animals, and always took a moment to appreciate his surroundings. He loved to recite the names of the family pugs and inquire to even the dogs’ well-being during family visits. Bennie never hesitated to help family or friends as he was able. Benny loved cookouts, relaxing by his stereo and spending time with family. He enjoyed singing the bawdy songs that his cousin Mike so patiently taught him!
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Anne Taylor Hathcock and his father John R “Bob” Hathcock, who both treasured him deeply. He is survived by his two cousins, Chuck Taylor, and Kim Kernaghan Alexander.
Graveside services will be held in his honor on February 10th at 2PM.
