P. Moqueta Coggins Sutton went to her heavenly home on the evening of April 11, 2024. She was a Jackson County, NC native and was the daughter of the late James Garfield Coggins and Ethel Rosanne Stewart Coggins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Russell Sutton, her son, Keith Russell Sutton, her beloved granddaughter, Shannon Krista LaBoon, and her 10 brothers and sisters, Bonnie Coggins, Vernon Coggins, Vaughn Coggins, Jerdie Bryson, Woodrow Coggins, Edna Coggins, Coleman Coggins, Bessie Mae Coggins, George Coggins, and Brona Lee Turney. She is survived by her daughter, Jannessa S. LaBoon (David) and her grandchildren: twins, Kandace L. Moss (Jason) and Kayla L. Threatt (Franklin), and Samantha K. Sutton; as well as four great grandchildren: Kaylen Alyssa LaBoon, Avery Krista Moss, and twins, Connor Ray Moss and Abigail Hope Moss. She is also survived by two sister-in -laws, Mary S. Buchanan and Opal S. Dillard, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a member of Garden Sanctuary Church of God. When she was younger, she assisted in Sunday School, and she served as the secretary in the young women’s class. She was an alumnus of Glenville High School, Class of 1954, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball and softball teams. She was an excellent cook, gardener, and food preserver whether canning or freezing. She loved flowers. Many times, she would have 75 pots of flowers and hanging baskets on her porch.
But her pride and joy was her family. Her mother lived with her until her death. When her first grandchild was born prematurely and with lissencephaly, she learned to give IVs, to use a feeding tube to provide her nourishment, and to operate various types of medical equipment. Regardless of the time of day or night, she accompanied Shannon on every trip to the hospital but one. The nurses at Richland would say, “Have Mamaw will travel.” Furthermore, she cared for her husband who, after three strokes, became completely for bed ridden.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 18 from 1 PM to 2 PM at Garden Sanctuary Church of God, 831 Cedar Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with the Funeral following at 2 PM. Graveside service will follow at Grandview Memorial on 620 S. Cherry Road, 29732 in Rock Hill.
