Paul Zoltan Domeny (91) of Rock Hill, South Carolina (formerly of Detroit and Portage, Michigan as well as Palm Harbor, Florida) left those of us who knew and loved him a little wiser and MUCH happier because we did. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, cousin, husband, brother-in-law, father (3 daughters), father-in-law, grandfather (7), great-grandfather (6), uncle and friend who never tired of teaching the youngsters naughty songs and Hungarian cuss words while making up funny nicknames for us all.
Paul had a remarkable ability to connect with people—whether it was negotiating labor issues at Ford Motor Company or settling litigation in court as an attorney—his profession for 30 years. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Detroit College of Law, Paul was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon as well as the Michigan and Rat’s Ass Bar Associations.
Paul loved to pretend he was a miser (those of us who benefitted from his generous financial assistance knew better), attributing it to his ethnic Hungarian heritage and fears “the market could crash at any time”. He carried this charade so far that when he left Ford Motor to practice law, Paul’s colleagues gave him a gypsy-costumed caricature portrait of him saying “Never mind the kind words—just throw money!”
We love you more than words can express, our always and forever rock, “Papoosh”! THANK YOU for being a living lesson of humility, generosity, kindness and faithfulness. What an awesome legacy you have given us. Kiss Ama, Mary and all our ancestors for us.
