Rock Hill, South Carolina. Mr. Hernandez passed away at home on the 21st day of November, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer.
Paul was born March 10, 1943 in White Castle, Louisiana, to the late Paul Anthony Hernandez, Sr. (KIA in WWII when Paul was one year old) and the late Mary Ann Cedotal Hernandez Bourgeois. Paul was blessed to be raised by the late Edward Joseph Bourgeois Sr. who always treated him as his own son and whom Paul called “Daddy”. He was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to his parents and stepfather, he was also predeceased by the mother of his children, Iva Lee Moss Hernandez, his 4 sisters, 2 of his brothers and a granddaughter, Brittany Nicole Miller.
He was a Navy veteran who served on an aircraft carrier outside of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in the 1960’s. He was of the Baptist faith and was an avid sports fan. He was retired from Phillip Morris.
He is survived by his son, Paul Anthony Hernandez III and his wife, Sherry of York, South Carolina; his daughter, Susan Hernandez Mitchell and her husband, Howard of Rock Hill, South Carolina; his step daughter, Julie Pittmon Sides and her husband, Tommy of Denver, North Carolina; and his step daughter, Debbie Pittmon Francois and her husband, David of Unionville, North Carolina. He was a loving and proud PawPaw to Katherine Brett Hernandez Longstreth (her children Liam, Caroline and Dean), Matthew Ryan Mitchell (his wife, Jhonna and their children, Amelia and Elijah), and Kellie Hernandez Swindale (her husband, Mike and their daughter Kenzie). He was also the loving and proud PawPaw to Heather Dawson (her husband, Jesse and their children, Harleigh and Brody), Rebekah Tucker (her husband, Michael and their children, Carley and Raylie), Jennifer Miller (her son, Camden), Natalie Ramirez (her husband, Justin and their children, Cali, Neila and Gianna), Taylor Miller (her children, McKenlynn, Haven and Marlee) and Johnathon Sides. He is also survived by his brother Alan Bourgeois and his wife, Lucy, of Picayune, Mississippi.
Burial will be private.
