Rock Hill, SC – Nancy Wyman Ray, 79, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Chandler Place in Rock Hill.
Nancy was born January 27, 1945 in Camden, SC to the late Hastings and Elizabeth Wyman. Nancy was a wife, mother, teacher, librarian, media-specialist, poet and artist. As a beloved young English teacher her students presented her with a beautiful engraved silver platter as a sign of their appreciation. As a librarian she quietly but firmly opposed banning books and later as a media-specialist she started a student-led school television program which was one of the first of its kind. Nancy was also a published poet and accomplished artist. Her art was honored with solo exhibits in Charleston, Edisto, Aiken and Rock Hill, SC; and in Washington, DC. She participated in numerous juried exhibitions, often receiving awards and special recognition. In 2010 she received the Award for Excellence from the American Juried Art Salon.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas B. Ray; her children, Thomas B. Ray Jr (Cari) of Greer, SC; and Catherine R. Mabry (Ron) of Fort Mill, SC; her brother, Hastings Wyman Jr. of Washington DC; her sister, Elizabeth Wyman Silk of Los Angeles, CA; and five grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her late parents.
A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Nancy Wyman Ray at 11:30AM on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 with burial following the service at Forest Hills Cemetery, 4290 Old York Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
The family will receive visitors at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 10:00AM.
