Rock Hill – Mr. Max Alan “Butch” Phillips, 80, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Atrium Health – Pineville surrounded by his family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm, with Masonic Rites being performed at 6:00 pm, on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, with Dr. Ron Richardson officiating.
Born in Charleston, SC, Mr. Phillips was the son of the late Max Phillips and the late Margaret Phillips. He was a retired entrepreneur and worked for himself most of his life. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with loved ones. Mr. Butch was the king of a good barbeque with the best homemade sauce. He was a family man and jokester who loved people. If there was beach music, he was always singing along and shagging. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #416, the York County Shrine Club, the Rock Hill Shag Club and Catawba Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Pansy Merritt Phillips; his son, Rusty (Bobbi) Phillips; three granddaughters, Taylor Phillips, Austen (Jamie) Campbell, and Chandler (Christopher) Dobbs; and two great-grandchildren, J.P. and Elsie Kate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Phillips’ name to Catawba Baptist Church, 1450 S. Anderson Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29730 or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris St., Greenville, SC 29605.
