Mary Alice Hinson died August 6, 2024, in Brunswick County, NC.
She was born December 11, 1931, in Rock Hill, SC, the daughter of Henry Fudge Allen and Lucille Dove Allen.
Mary Alice grew up on a farm in the Rowell Community in Chester County, SC and moved back into town where she resided with her aunt Lucille Allen while attending Rock Hill High School where she graduated in 1949. She then enrolled as a student at Winthrop College (now University). She met her husband of 64 years Edward T. (“Ed”) Hinson, and they were married September 30, 1950. They had three sons and lived, worked and raised their family in Rock Hill.
Mary Alice retired from Winthrop University as the Director of Office Services and she and Ed who retired from Celanese enjoyed traveling and spending time with family including children and grandchildren. She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her grandchildren named her “Milo,” which stuck, and she proudly accepted the name change embraced by family and friends. She tried her best to live the “Golden rule,” a good neighbor, first rate homemaker, friend to many, and considerate of others. Her homemade fig preserves, generously shared, were superlative.
She is survived by her sons: Edward T. Jr. (Dorothy) Hinson of Charlotte, NC; John A. (Marcia) Hinson of Ocean Isle Beach, NC; Steven E. (Kelly) Hinson of Mount Holly, NC.; six grandchildren: Philip Hinson (Rebecca) of Charlotte, Bailey H. (Steven ) Harman of Columbia, SC; Rebecca H.
