Marilyn Yvonne Hypes passed from this life into glory on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Atrium-Pineville after a long illness. She was born in Raleigh County, West Virginia on January 13, 1958, to Barbara Ann Malay Higginbotham and Bernard Bragg.
Marilyn lived in Fort Mill, SC with her husband and love of her life, David. They were married for 45 years and were blessed with two children, April Yvonne Hypes, and Adam Hurston Hypes (Annada). She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Gracen, Davis, Bella, and William Cudd, and Mira, Miles and Tilly Hypes. She adored them all and loved spending time together making crafts, fishing, and going to the beach.
She is preceded in death by beloved family members, father, Bernard Bragg, stepfather, Jackie Kieth Higginbotham, grandparents, Slyvester Malay (Oma), sister Lisa Jo Bowman, brother-in-law, John Stuart Holladay, and nephew Clinton Travis Holcomb.
Marilyn’s presence will also be missed by her devoted mother, Barbara Ann Higginbotham (Jack), brother, Jeffrey Keith Higginbotham (Kathleen), sister, Kimberly Dawn Buchanan (Tony), sister, Lora Ann Holladay (Jack), sister Lisa Bragg, and brother, Jimmy Bragg. Father-in-law, Darrell Hurston Hypes (Patsy), and Mother-in-law Nancy Compton, Brother-in-laws, Danny Hypes (Loretta), and Eugene Hypes (Regina), as well as her many extended family members and friends.
Marilyn had many loves in her life but will be remembered for her deep devotion to her family, and her heart made whole near the beach, particularly Hunting Island State Park. She enjoyed her time there camping, fishing, and hunting shells. Her final post on social media said, “take me to the beach, it’s a wonderful cleanser for the heart and soul.”
After a difficult diagnosis a few years ago, Marilyn began a fight that was admired by all who knew her. Her positivity was an inspiration, and she lived her life to the fullest. Her motto was, each and every day was a gift, so live it as one big Thank You!
Greene Funeral Home will be assisting the family. A Celebration of Life is planned at 2:00pm, Sunday, June 2nd at their Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC.
