Mardelle Nasshan, age 92, went home to her faithful Savior on December 7th, 2023.
Born in Griffin, Georgia during the Great Depression to parents Marvin R. and Vera Maners Snipes, Mardelle’s story is one of God’s tender care. From an early age, she remembered the Lord caring for her through His Word and through faithful pastors. When her family moved to High Point, NC, Dr. Conrad, the pastor of First Baptist Church of High Point, ministered to her and told her parents “Do not stop Mardelle. God has a plan for her life.”
For Mardelle, the words of Jesus in Matthew 16:24 served as a theme for her life: “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” The power of this verse, coupled with the song “Where He Leads Me I Will Follow”, reminded Mardelle of her purpose in life. At age nine, the Lord brought her to saving faith in Jesus Christ and from then on, her life was devoted to Jesus and sharing His Message.
At the age of sixteen, Mardelle and her family moved to Rock Hill, SC. She attended Columbia Bible College, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Ronald K. Nasshan. They were married in 1954 and began serving the Lord. God graciously gave Ron and Mardelle 36 years serving four churches in the Northeast.
Following Ron’s passing, Mardelle returned to Rock Hill, SC and spent the majority of the remainder of her life there. She affectionately referred to Rock Hill as a “Sanctuary” due to the blessing of loving friends and caring churches. The Lord continued to use Mardelle for His glory to share His Message. She was trained and deployed to areas of disaster as a chaplain with the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team. She loved to tell the story of Jesus and His love.
Mardelle was grateful to spend the last two years of her life living at the Westminster Towers. Additionally, she was a member of Westminster PCA and an Associate Member of First ARP Church.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 13th at 11:30a.m. in Heritage Hall of the Westminster Towers with Rev. Jon Oliphant officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Samaritan’s Purse Disaster Relief, PO Box 3000 Boone, NC 28607.
