Rock Hill, SC – Mrs. Linda Lincoln Cowden, 82, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2024 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House with family by her side.

All services will be private.

Linda was born on Dec. 28, 1941, in Lusk, Wyoming, to the late Aaron Lincoln and the late Helen Trimmer Lincoln. Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Betty Allen and Shirley Smith; her brothers, Gerald, Keith, and Larry Lincoln. She was the youngest of six children, and happily admitted that she was spoiled because her mom was too tired by then. She loved growing up in a small town and treasured her family and friends. After graduating from high school in 1960, she moved to Rapid City, South Dakota and attended secretarial college. After graduating from the one-year program, she took a secretarial position at Martin Marietta, and met James Bookout Cowden the same year. They were married on Feb. 20, 1961, and their son Troy Shaun Cowden was born on Dec. 29, 1962. They moved to Michigan after her husband left the Air Force, and Linda focused on raising Troy and their daughter Tracy, whom they adopted in 1971. They lived in Livonia, Michigan until 1993. when they retired and moved to Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Linda had a lifelong degenerative eye disease, retinitis pigmentosa, which affected her and three of her siblings. She was not able to drive after the age of 30, and yet managed the household with ease, riding her bike to the grocery store and sewing many of her children’s clothes and other items until her eyesight grew too dim for her to continue to sew. She loved shopping with her daughter and her friends, her church and Sunday school class, and all things related to Wyoming. She loved her family, and her faith was very important to her.

Linda is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, James Cowden; her son, Troy Cowden; her daughter, Tracy (Doug Seaman) Cowden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness @(https://www.fightingblindness.org/), which supports research on retinal disease and was an important organization to Linda.
