Leonard was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina and grew up in Raeford, North Carolina. Sometime during his childhood his family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where he graduated from Harding High School where he loved to play the game of football.
Leonard was an honest man who touched the lives of everyone he met with his witty jokes, contagious laugh and heart of gold. His craftsmanship and skill set afforded him a long list of people who called on him for his expertise as well as the ability to lay roots and build his wonderful family home in Fort Mill, South Carolina where his children grew up in and friends gathered around to create many memories with the Huneycutt family. Leonard was raised to appreciate the value of hard work and exemplified that with his family by being the ultimate provider and fixer of all things. In Leonard’s spare time you could find him playing with his Golden Retrievers: Scout, Sadie, Moose and Wolfhound Tina, boating on Lake Wylie with friends and family, turning a wrench on his latest project car or enjoying a sweet treat.
Leonard’s love for his wife Alyssa was evident in everything he did and they shared an unwavering love for nearly 30 years. They got married in
Fayetteville in 1996, which was the start of a great love story. Leonard always treated Alyssa like a queen and tended to her every need and want, not out of necessity but out of the kindness of his heart. His children and grandchildren were the lights of his life. Leonard grew up
without knowing the love a parent should show to their children, so when he had his own children, he stopped at nothing to show them the way a Father should make his children feel loved, cherished and nurtured. Leonard’s greatest joy was being in the presence of his loved ones, no matter where they gathered he found a special joy in listening to and sharing stories with those he loved. He was a wonderful listener and you could always tell he was engaged when conversing with you and genuinely interested in other people and their concerns, he wasn’t afraid to vocalize his opinion whether you liked it or not. Leonard will be dearly missed as he lives in our hearts forever.
Surviving are his spouse, Alyssa Davis Huneycutt; his daughter, Taylor (Zachery) Merritt; two sons, Nicholas (Heather) Huneycutt and William (Kallie) Wade; his step-mother, Margie Huneycutt; his brother, David Huneycutt; his sister, Linda (Bruce) Tilley; three grandsons, Nicholas Huneycutt, Jaxson Wade, Jake Wade; and two granddaughters, Lacie Huneycutt and Kamden Wade.
