Fort Mill, SC – Having placed his trust in Jesus Christ, Larry received his eternal homecoming on May 14, 2024.
He was born on November 8, 1937 in Valparaiso, Indiana, to Doris Talitha Newman and Webster William Magnuson. After graduating from Chesterton High School in 1955, he worked for about a year at Midwest Steel Corporation in Portage, Indiana, before joining the U.S. Marines in 1956 until 1958. When he returned to Midwest Steel, he completed a four-year apprenticeship to become a machinist and later a millwright where he worked for the next 41 years. After retirement, he moved to Fort Mill, SC, where he worked for Lowe’s Home Improvement for ten years.
He was a dedicated husband to Carol Ann Codd for over 62 years. They raised two children, Chase Allan and Kimberly Ann. Larry and Carol owned the Old World Gift Shop in Chesterton, Indiana from 1967 to l976. They were faithful members First Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC, and group leaders in the Sunday school class for many years. Larry was a people person who enjoyed practical jokes and a good sense of humor. He also enjoyed gardening, boating, hunting, fishing, and travel, but knew zero about modern art.
He was one of four children and was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Don Roy of Valparaiso, Indiana (sister-in-law, Marilyn). He is survived by sister, Gwen (husband, Oliver passed) of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother, Chase (wife, Mary) of Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
Those left to cherish his memories are son, Chase (wife, Jeanine) of Broken Arrow, OK and Kim (husband, Brian) of Fort Mill, SC; grandchildren, Chase Jr. (wife, Anna) of Broken Arrow, OK; Cami (husband, Connor) Singletary of North Hollywood, CA; Tye (wife, Kate) of Broken Arrow, OK; Ethan Hajas of Tempe, AZ and Jacob Downes (fiancée, Bree) of Boise, Idaho; and great-granddaughters, Carmen and Julia, daughters of Chase Jr. and Anna.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11 am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 with Pastor Jamie Burdette officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00-10:45 am at the funeral home.
