Kristin S. “Kristy” Corbett Bengivenga passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of November 15, 2023, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill, SC, where her family and closest friends held vigil bedside. Taken far too soon, Kristy had just celebrated her 50th birthday one month prior.
A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, Kristy earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and began her career working in marketing, customer service, and personal finance roles. She would later spend the majority of her professional career at Muzak/Mood Media in Fort Mill, SC, holding a variety of positions that leveraged and highlighted her copywriting, marketing, relationship-building, and voice acting skills. Known for her kindness, creativity, and infectious positivity, Kristy’s vibrant personality not only shone in her work and influenced her coworkers but also radiated to her clients. There, she made lifelong friends.
Following her cancer diagnosis, Kristy transitioned into the role of a full-time, homeschooling mother for her young son. Together, they enjoyed reading about different cultures, taking educational field trips to local and regional educational attractions, and exploring the worlds of the arts, STEM, and everything in between through at-home learning projects.
Kristy had a true passion for giving back to her community and honoring the planet. She served as a board member for Rock Hill Clean and Green, was a founding member of Muzak’s Green Team, organized local litter clean-ups, donated her time and compassion to Renew Our Community, volunteered with her daughter in children’s ministries at local churches, and even regularly participated as an educational actor at Historic Brattonsville. She also contributed as a green living columnist for YC Magazine and was an advocate for recycling and reuse initiatives in her community.
Kristy was born in Johnstown, PA, on October 23, 1973 to John W. Corbett and Linda L. Baysore (Louis) Greer, who both survive. Sadly, in 2020, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bengivenga. She is survived by two beautiful children, her daughter, Marisa (Victor “Manny” Falcon-Flores) Taylor; son, Ethan Bengivenga; step-father, Lou Greer; step-daughters, Sara (Jason) Adams and Miranda Bengivenga; and three cousins, Shelly (George) Grab, Kori (Russell) Zipperer, and Beth Aunkst. Kristy is also survived by her loving partner, Ken Dillon; best friend, Jeff McDowell; her incredibly supportive circle of pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) cancer survivors, known affectionately as her PMP Sisters; and many loving friends, relatives, and countless other lives she touched.
There will be a visitation at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732 on Friday, November 17, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. A Memorial Service will also be held at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Kristy’s name to the Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation, 491 Baltimore Pike #177, Springfield, PA 19064 or to the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, 2275 India Hook Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
