The family of Julie Ann (Armstrong) Bivens sadly reports her unexpected death on March 6, 2023. Julie was born September 12, 1949, at Columbia, SC. She was the daughter of the late Virginia Davis Armstrong and LTC Edward R. Armstrong. Julie attended public schools in Columbia, South Carolina, and Augusta, Georgia, and was a 1967 graduate of A. C. Flora High School. Julie received her master’s degree from Winthrop University in 1971. In 1972, Julie married William Freddy Bivens for 50 years and they made their home in Catawba, South Carolina. Their son, Brian Keith Bivens was born February 7, 1979. Julie was a dedicated and accomplished special education teacher in the Lancaster County School District and taught at Erwin Elementary for 38 years.
Julie held deep personal beliefs, which helped her in her difficult struggle with cancer. She was a 12-year cancer survivor. In retirement, Julie enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tending her many lovely plants, as a diehard Gamecocks fan she enjoyed watching her gamecocks play, making day trips hunting antiques for her collection.
Julie is survived by her beloved husband, Freddy Bivens and son, Keith Bivens , and by her sister, Grace Jean Hershberger of Columbia. Her family, neighbors, and friends cherish memories of her kind, loving, and vivacious personality.
The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel, 355 E White Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730. A funeral service will be held for Mrs. Bivens at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Greene Funeral Home Downtown Chapel and burial will follow at Grandview Hollis Lakes Cemetery, 401 Hollis Lakes Rd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
