Rock Hill – James “Jim” Howard Landis, Jr. passed away on Monday June 10, 2024. He was born on March 17, 1946 in Birmingham, AL to Dorothy Brock Landis and James Howard Landis, Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ray Landis.
Jim graduated from the University of Alabama in 1969. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and went on to serve in the Vietnam War with the US Marine Corps. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, hunting, riding his Harley Davidson, boating, camping, wood carving, golfing, and a multitude of other “hobbies” of the day to occupy his time.
A Celebration of Life Service to honor Jim will be held 11:00 am, Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC with Father Ray Waldon officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the time of service on Thursday. Burial for Jim will be 1:00 pm, Thursday, June 20, 2024 at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, 144 Caldwell St., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Deidre Landis; son, Trey Landis (Ashley); daughter, Cate Sirles (Curtis); three grandchildren, Ava Sirles, Landon Sirles, and Graham Landis; brothers, George Landis (Marilyn) and Warren Landis (Suping); sister, Amy Landis; brother-in-law, Steve Self (Beth); and numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Vasculitis Foundation (https://www.vasculitisfoundation.org/) or any veterans organization (ie. Wounded Warriors).
