It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Edward Laney, a beloved son, father, brother, pepaw, great pepaw, uncle, cousin, and friend on May 28, 2024 at the age of 75. Born on April 2, 1949 in Rock Hill, SC, Jim lived a life full of passion, adventure, and love.
He is survived by his son – Andrew Laney, daughter – Leslie Amerson (Keith), daughter – April Silvia (Scott), grandchildren – Taylor Lewis (Trevor), Tyler Sisk, Wyatt Fisher, and Jaxon Silvia, great grandchildren – Bentley and Lane Lewis, sisters – Nida Petty, Dena Carlyle, Vivian Rainey, Janice Bivins, and Marilyn Teague, and brother – Joe Laney.
He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Laney, his mother Lucille Laney, and sister Becky Laney.
He had an innate talent and love for building and working on cars. His shop was his sanctuary, where he spent countless hours tinkering on anything and everything. His love for racing was legendary among those who knew him, as he could often be found tearing up the tracks in his younger years or watching any race in the years that followed. He also loved off-roading in his dune buggy or riding motorcycles. He loved anything with wheels, especially his trusty Ford F-150.
He was a self-taught learner, always eager to discover new things and take on new challenges. His curiosity and dedication were evident in all his pursuits from his enjoyment of shooting to his love of drawing. His appreciation for music was equally significant with his love of learning new instruments.
Above all, Jim cherished his family. His life was a testament to the joy found in simple pleasures and the beauty of lifelong learning and adventure.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy, love, curiosity, and passion will continue to inspire and live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on June 9, 2024 at Greene’s Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 at 2pm followed by visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Toys For Tots of Lancaster, SC.
