Rock Hill, SC – James Edward Burton, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at his home. His family knew him as “Pop”.
A service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 from 2-4 pm at Church of the Nazarene, 998 Dunlap Roddey Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730, with Reverend Jerry Devinney officiating.
Born in Chester, SC, Mr. Burton was the son of the late Sidney Meek Burton and the late Katie Bailes Burton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Jean Burton, his brothers, William Hunter Burton, Larry O’Neal Burton, John David Burton, and his son, David Eugene Burton.
Mr. Burton was retired from Whitesides Realty with more than 40 years of service. He collected clocks and enjoyed going to yard sales and flea markets. He looked forward to any opportunity to travel. Mr. Burton always had a knack for telling jokes. His mind was sharp through his last day. He especially loved to dance and enjoyed all music, especially country music.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Michelle Burton of Rock Hill, SC; 5 sons, James Edward Burton, Jr., Douglas Dwayne Burton, Timothy Matthew Burton, Roger Wilfred Burton, Randy Hunter Burton; nine grandchildren, Skyler, Briannah, Brandy, Hunter, Jessica, Trey, Brittany, Josh, Nikki; and several great-grandchildren.
