Harry Bruce Williams Sr., 97, entered into his eternal home on Friday, December 29, 2023.
A Celebration of Mr. Williams Life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Neely’s Creek ARP Church, 974 Neely’s Creek Road, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with the Reverend Matt Joldersma officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 10:00 am until time of the service and other times, at the family homes.
Born on April 23, 1926 in York County, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Newton Whiteside Williams and the late Minnie Locke Williams. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Mildred Jackson Williams, eight brothers and two sisters. He left Rock Hill High School to serve in the US Navy during World War II where he specialized in maintaining the F4U Corsairs. Upon returning from service, he completed his high school education and later graduated with honors from York Technical College’s first graduating class in 1966. Mr. Williams was a Charter Member of the Lesslie Volunteer Fire Department, serving as a fireman for many years. In 1989, he retired from Celanese Corporation in Rock Hill after 22 years of service. His deep love for the Lord and devotion to his fellow man were evident in the way he lived. He gave freely to anyone in need. He was a life-long member of Neely’s Creek ARP Church, serving multiple terms as Elder and Deacon. His hobbies included gardening and antique tractor restoration. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Williams is survived by two sons, H. Bruce Williams Jr. and wife Carol, Leon Newton Williams and wife Tammy, both of Rock Hill; six grandchildren, Mary Kathleen Culp (Graham), Ashley Williams, Brent Williams (Abbey), Colby Williams (Taylor), Blake Williams, and Danielle Champion; a great grandchild, Carter Anne Culp.
