Rock Hill, SC – Gregory “Greg” Lee Goodman, 68, of Rock Hill, SC passed away January 27, 2024, following a long battle with leukemia. Greg was born and raised in Salisbury, NC where he spent a wonderful childhood playing on the golf course and working in the family lumber business. He is preceded in death by his parents Linus Giles “L.G.” Goodman, Jr and Katherine Cress Goodman.
Greg is survived by his adoring wife of 39 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Baskervill Goodman. Also, his brother Linus Giles Goodman, III (Anne) of Salisbury, NC; brother-in-law, William “Buck” R. Baskervill, III (Libby) and sister-in-law Evelyn H. Baskervill of Wilson, NC; nephews and nieces Linus Goodman, IV, Kate Goodman (Alison), Sallie Baskervill, Will Baskervill (Lindsay), Alex Baskervill (Marissa) and eight great nephews and nieces.
Greg was a 1978 graduate of Wake Forest University, and a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity where he was President of the Delta Omega Chapter. He worked as a plant manager with Blue Bell Corporation, living in Sanford, NC where he and Liz met and married. He transferred to Red Kapp Industries, later VF Corporation and lived in Nashville and Franklin, Tennessee for 25 years. Those years were spent in quality control, merchandizing, forecasting and technical services. In 2007 he moved to Rock Hill and worked as a budget forecaster for Carolina Pad and Paper in Charlotte, NC. He retired in 2017.
Greg was usually a quiet introvert but would raise a spirited debate with anyone who was on the opposite side of most any issue. He was an avid collector researching extensively on his “current” interest. Always willing to share knowledge and advice with wry humor and witty sarcasm sprinkled in. Always willing to help by teaching, showing, or doing. He got his first computer in 1987, a Tandy from Radio Shack, which led to a fascination with spread sheets and the power of data. He was a die-hard Tennessee Titans fan who loved working in the yard and his kitties: Norton, Trouble, Biscuit, NuNu, Cleo and Gabby.
A loving thank you goes to the nurses at the Piedmont Infusion Center: Julie, Chris, Jarelyn, Lindsey and Beth. You were a special team that saw him through many ups and downs during his 4-year battle.
A memorial service will be held at Ebenezer ARP Church, 2132 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. with family and out-of-town guests gathering to share memories at the home afterwards.
Please consider giving the gift of life by donating blood or platelets through the American Red Cross. Greg needed over 700 units of platelets and/or blood during his battle with leukemia. Memorials can be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (give.LLS.org) or a charity of your choice.
