Glenn Morris Cornwell, 67, of Rock Hill, SC, entered his Heavenly home on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. Born in Chester County in 1955, he was the youngest son of Lucius Hafner and Nancy Susan Cornwell of Chester, SC. Glenn was an active member of the 4H Club and later graduated from Chester High School in 1974 and then attended the University of South Carolina where he graduated from the College of Engineering in 1978.
He began his 43-year career at Duke Energy as a mechanical engineer in the construction phase of the Catawba Nuclear Station and later retired from project management.
Glenn was a faithful Christian all his life. While living in Belmont, NC, he was a Sunday School leader at First United Methodist Church. There he participated in the building of a Habitat for Humanity house. Later he volunteered repairing wheelchairs with the Wheelchair Ministry of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC, where he was an active member.
He married the love of his life, Deborah Kiser Cornwell, in 1980, and started a family three years later. His favorite things in life were his family, his friends, his Gamecocks, and his pets, including his cows and donkeys. He also loved classic rock and roll, often traveling out of state to see the great bands of the 1960s and 1970s with his wife and daughter. He considered his grandsons his greatest treasure and loved spending time with them any chance he had.
Glenn was the epitome of a Godly husband and father, leading his family by example in his walk of faith. He was patient, slow to anger, and wise with his words. He had a dry sense of humor and always saw the best in people.
Glenn leaves behind to treasure his memory his wife, Deborah, of Rock Hill, SC; his daughter, Lauren Cornwell Wright and her husband, Will, of Waxhaw, NC; and his three grandsons, William Cornwell, Declan James, and Kellan Ford Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Lucius Wallace Cornwell and James Hafner Cornwell, his infant daughter, Allison Blair Cornwell, and his son and daughter premature twins.
A service to celebrate Glenn’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Calvary Baptist Church on 760 Calvary Church Rd Carlisle, SC 29031, in Chester, SC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. Guests are encouraged to wear Gamecock colors to help celebrate Glenn’s legacy.
