Dicksie McCullough Mims Ward, born on February 23, 1935, in Reevesville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, March, 23, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Harry McCullough Mims and Evelyn Johnston Mims.

Dicksie graduated from St. George High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from Converse College in 1956, where she was actively involved in various aspects of campus life. On October 19, 1957, she married William Brien “Jack” Ward Jr., and together they made their home in Rock Hill, South Carolina, Jack’s hometown.

A devoted homemaker, Dicksie found joy in serving her family, church, and community. She was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities.

Dicksie’s greatest passion was sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. She delighted in studying the Bible, spreading God’s Word, and striving to live each day in service to the Lord. Alongside her husband, she organized numerous faith-based initiatives, reflecting their shared commitment to ministry. Known for her encouraging spirit, Dicksie faithfully reached out to those who were broken and hurting, offering comfort and support to all in need.

In addition to her parents, Dicksie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. William Brien “Jack” Ward, Jr., her sisters-in-law, Juliet Brice of Rock Hill, Nini Ward of Columbia, SC, and Mary Lee Ward of Roanoke, VA; her brothers-in-law, Dr. Bob Ward (Teeny) of Rock Hill, Dr. Tommy Ward of Roanoke, VA, Dr. Johnny L. Ward of Columbia, SC, Dr. Harry Gregorie of Charleston, SC, and Dr. Billy Houck of Florence, SC.

Dicksie is survived by her children, daughters Dicksie Mims Ward of Lexington, KY, Evelyn Ward Gaddis (Ben) of Clemson, SC, and Mary Elizabeth Ward of Seneca, SC and son, William Brien “Jack” Ward, III; her grandchildren, Caroline DeVita (Nick) of Greenville, SC, William Gaddis (Caroline) of Anderson, SC, Emily Gaddis of Greenville, SC, Mary Evelyn Gaddis of Clemson, SC and Charlotte Ward of Rock Hill, SC; and her great-grandchildren, Anna Chapman Gaddis of Anderson, SC and Leo Joseph DeVita of Greenville, SC; her brother, Harry McCullough Mims, Jr and wife, Barbara of Orangeburg, SC; and her sisters-in-law, Kaye Ward of Roanoke, VA, Jane Gregorie of Charleston, SC, Ann Houck of Florence, SC, and Mary Maners and husband, Jimmy of Rock Hill, SC.

A service to celebrate Dicksie’s life will be held on Thursday, March 27th at 11am at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rock Hill, SC.  The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Dicksie’s unwavering love, faith, and service have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
