Clyde Henry “Hank” Buchanan (88 yrs old) peacefully went to be with Our LORD on January 21st, 2023, at Atrium Hospital in Pineville, N.C. due to Heart and Kidney disease.
In 1935, he was the 3rd baby born on New Year’s Day in Gastonia, N.C., earning his mother a year supply of milk. Even as a young boy, selling snow cones from a wagon he pulled throughout his neighborhood, he was a brilliant businessman. From owning a Gas Station to earning his North Carolina Unlimited Electrical Contractor’s license and owning/operating C. H. Buchanan Electric Co. (Charlotte, N.C.) for 35 plus years.
At seventeen years old, he forged his mother’s signature to join the United States Navy but soon realized, how much he was home sick and would go AWOL, even hitchhiking from California to Gastonia at Christmas time to be with his family (a true Momma’s boy at heart).
Mr. Hank, as his Church family knew him, came to know the LORD later in life. Joining College Park Baptist Church in 1996, he loved to be in GOD’s house. In the beginning, he found he loved Gospel music and would travel all over to enjoy singing, tent revivals, and went on multiple Gospel Music Cruises with Pearl.
Sports played a big part in Clyde’s life. Going to watch his boys, grandchildren and great grand children play varies types of ball brought him lots of enjoyment. He would travel over many states some years to watch them play. His love of baseball increased when his great nephew began playing in the Minor Leagues. For years they enjoyed racing both dirt track and NASCAR. He and Pearl bowled together for many years. They loved traveling in their R.V., fishing from boats, piers, and oceanside. They spent lots time at the mountain cabin they built in Meadows of Dan, VA, and their place at Sunset Beach, NC. But at his home in SC, he loved to cut grass and was an avid gardener. He grew strawberries, blackberries, squash and other plants. He planted 3 kinds of peach trees several years ago and was so proud when he finally got his 1st peach; but his favorite, was his tomato plants. Each year he would start them as babies and end with a thousand tomatoes by Fourth of July.
He is survived by his beloved wife Pearl G. Buchanan, whom he loved for more than 62 years. At the very end, his only concern was that we take care of her.
He is survived, additionally, by his son, Michael D. Buchanan (Linda), his daughters Sheila B. Gann, Kim J. Sipe, Valerie J. Good and Janelle B. Hyde (Jack). His sisters, Louise Buchanan Law and Margie Lee Buchanan Duncan; and his brother, Guy Steven Buchanan.
He was blessed with 11 Grandchildren, 21 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Clyde Henry Buchanan Jr.; his mother and father, Vira Jamison and Julius A. Buchanan; his brother, Authur Buchanan; his sisters, Ann B. Weaver and Louise H. Reynolds and his great grandson, Aaron Davis.
