Rock Hill, SC – Claytie Nichols Powell was born to Rosa and Wilburn Nichols in Davie County, NC. She graduated Cooleeme High School in May 1947. She married Hayes Powell on July 3, 1947. They moved to Painsville, OH on July 1951 and lived in Ohio for 16 years. Her sister Iva Taylor had two sons. Robert and Gerald who Claytie helped raise. Iva passed away July 7, 1956. Claytie and Hayes moved back to SC on Labor Day 1967. Later Robert and Gerlad and family moved to SC and they all lived in the Woodvale neighborhood. Hayes passed away Nov. 4, 1984. Claytie, Robert and Gerald and family attended Woodvale Baptist Church. Robert passed away and later Claytie and Gerald and family attended Eastside Baptist Church. Claytie leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held for Claytie on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at 10 am at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC, 29732 with Pastor Nick Vinesett officiating.
