Fort Mill – Claudia Devereaux, born on October 15, 1948, in Dayton, OH, passed away on August 14, 2024. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Claudia was the daughter of the late William and Freda (Good) Hall. She was also preceded in death by her middle sister Marlene Carey and Marlene’s husband, William Carey.

Claudia is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bradley Devereaux. She is also survived by her youngest sister Gina Schechter and her husband Walter.  Her niece, Kelly Cagle, along with her husband, Joshua, and their two daughters, Julie and Katelyn Cagle who were close to Claudia’s heart.  Additionally, Claudia leaves behind numerous first cousins and a host of friends from coast to coast.

In her mid-thirties, Claudia pursued higher education for the first time. She attended Sinclair College in Dayton, OH, where she graduated with honors, earning a two-year Paralegal degree. During her second year, she received a full-tuition scholarship. In recent years, she passionately engaged in learning, completing nearly every online course offered by Hillsdale College.

Claudia was known for her strong Christian faith. She shared her beliefs readily with others. Every weekday, she sent scripture verses to over 80 people via email and text. These messages touched the lives of restaurant workers, fellow travelers, musicians, and more. Claudia had many interests that fueled her vibrant life. She loved walking outdoors, exploring antique stores, and traveling. Her love for animals, particularly horses, was well-known. Claudia also enjoyed tea parties and had a special affinity for trains. Her artistic talents were a major part of her life. Claudia was an accomplished musician, playing the oboe in various orchestras wherever she lived. In the Charlotte area, she was the principal oboist for the Charlotte Civic Orchestra, Central Piedmont Opera, Gardner-Webb Orchestra, and even traveled to play in the Myrtle Beach Symphony. Her love for drawing was expressed through the hand-painted Christmas cards she sent to family and friends each year.

Throughout her medical challenges in the past 14 months, Claudia remained a bright, shining light for God. She often shared how she felt God’s presence during her journey, especially before her surgery when she believed God reassured her with the words, “I got this; you just need to give honor and praise to Me.” Her life was a testament to her faith and love for others. Claudia’s favorite scripture, Psalm 143:8, reflected her trust in God’s unfailing love. Claudia’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
