Rock Hill, SC – Charlie Edward Fox, 87, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024 in Garden City, South Carolina.
Charlie was born on August 18, 1937, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was the son of the late John Agustus Fox Sr. and the late Cammie Harris Fox.
Charlie’s love for fishing began early in life and remained a passion throughout his years. His early career started at Rock Hill Printing but soon turned into a lifelong vocation by opening Catawba Tackle and Marine in 1957. The store quickly became a community staple, where locals could gather not only to purchase fishing gear, hunting rifles, or supplies but also to engage in spirited conversations about politics, share stories, and talk fishing. His hand-tied jigs were famous among locals and were even shipped to customers across the country, still to this day.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Judy Fox; his daughter, Laurie Odell (Robert); his sister, Mandy Fox and his beloved grandchildren, Caroline Prosser (Bryan) and Nathan Odell. He is preceded in death by his brother, John Fox Jr. and his sisters Frances Sistare and Linda Fox.
Charlie cherished his time, traveling with his wife, Judy, and their grandchildren. Many fond memories were made at their beach house in Garden City, a place they visited frequently.
A Memorial service for Charlie will take on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 4pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd. Rock Hill, SC, 29732. Family will receive friends after the service.
Charlie will be remembered for his dedication to family, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his deep love for the simple joys in life.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Charlie’s name to Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church or New Kirk Baptist, Children’s Ministries.
