Rock Hill, South Carolina – Charles Ester “Sonny” Carroll, Jr., of Rock Hill. After a lengthy battle with Dementia, Sonny passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday July 4, 2024, to be with his Lord and Savior.

He was born in Rock Hill, SC on January 20, 1937, to the late Charles E. Carroll, Sr. and Mamie Hyatt Carroll.

He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School, class of 1955. After High School he attended the University of South Carolina. On June 30, 1956, he married his High School Sweetheart, Patricia R. “Patty” Carroll. Sonny, also known as “PawPaw”, was a kind hearted man, a loving husband and an unforgettable daddy. To his family, he was considered one of the smartest men they knew. He was forever a constant source of wisdom and always a pillar of strength. He loved playing and coaching baseball, heading to the golf course, baking and helping others. In 1999, he retired from Morrison Textile Machinery as a textile machinery draftsman/engineer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty Russell Carroll, his daughter Jamie Carroll Allen, his father Charles E Carroll, Sr., his mother Mamie H. Carroll, son-law W. Merritt King and his Yorkie of 13 years, “Angel”.

He is survived by his sons, Rusty Carroll (Donna) of Mobile, AL and Chris Carroll (Cindy); his daughter Kellye King of Rock Hill; Sisters Nita McGill and Janice Sutton (Joe) of York; Sister-n-law Rena Holmes (Craig) of Surfside; 10 grandchildren; Kyndra Ring (Jason), Kylee George (Chris), Chad Sealey (Danielle), Christopher Carroll (Doreen), Brittany Kelly (Michael), Will King (Alison), Ashlyn Ryals (Nick), Weston King, Sandy Allen (Rachel), Jordan Allen (Brittany) and 19 great grandchildren.

A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Chapel of Greene Funeral Home at 2133 Ebenezer Road Rock Hill SC, with the Rev. Jerry Devinney officiating. Family will receive friends following the memorial service and at the home of Kellye King 621 Bellanova Ct. Rock Hill SC. In lieu of flowers , donations may be made to Providence Care (Hospice) at 500 Lakeshore Pkwy, Rock Hill SC 29730.
