Carolyn “Jean” Davis Pope Carter, 81, peacefully made her journey to eternity on January 1, 2024 where she was greeted by all those who beat her there. What a reunion that must’ve been!
She was born to the late William Preston Davis and Louise Schockley Davis in Chester, SC in the early spring of 1942.
Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her first husband, Johnny Ray Pope, and her second husband, Robert Dean Carter. Also preceding her were sisters Linda Davis and Shirley Davis Pressley.
She is survived by her son, Tony Pope (Debbie) and her daughters; Barbara Pope and Tamara “Tammi” Carter; 6 grandchildren; Shannon (Dusty), Leighanne (Dustin), Daniel (Kim), Ryan (Holly), Kayla (Chris) and Travis (Emily). They gave her 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was truly GREAT!
She is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Knight and Brenda Campbell, and one brother, Roger Davis, all of Rock Hill; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jean worked tirelessly for Springs Industries before an injury forced her to change professions. She last spent 28 years for Wal-Mart on Dave Lyle before she finally retired in her 70’s. She could be found in Sporting Goods long before sports stores existed. She always wore a smile and never met a stranger.
She was the sweetest and smartest person you’d ever meet. Some would even say how stubborn, yet tough, she was too. She loved and adored her family – all of whom she addressed by baby, sweetheart, and love. She opened her home and heart to many of us over the years and constantly sacrificed for others. She never complained. Her love was selfless and was without boundaries. Her kindred spirit will be carried by us all until we meet her again.
The family will receive friends Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Greene Funeral Home-Northwest from 6-8 pm. The funeral will be Friday, January 5, 2024. at the Greene Northwest Chapel at 2:30 pm with interment following at Grandview Memorial Park – Hollis Lakes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
