Carol Lynn Hines, 55, passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at home surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Rock Hill, SC to Don and Betty Hines, she graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1987 before attending Spartanburg Methodist College and Winthrop University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion.
Friendly, service-oriented, and endlessly compassionate, Carol sought to help people and centered her professional life around the assistance of others. Carol held positions as a teller with Home Federal Bank, an Administrative Assistant with the Ministry Department at Heritage of Fort Mill, and a Human Resources Coordinator & Benefits Specialist with United Way of Charlotte. Whether through customer service or organization and advocacy, Carol’s enthusiasm and thoughtfulness left a lasting effect on everyone she encountered by brightening their day or making their lives better.
Carol lived a life of happiness, intensely loving her family and friends. Her caring nature and sparkling personality drew people to her and she made friends with ease. She excelled at building and maintaining connections no matter the circumstances. Carol was a dedicated daughter, sister, and aunt; she found her greatest joy being with family and through her unwavering faith in Christ.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis days before her 27th birthday, Carol faced her new reality courageously, with a kind heart, and a resolute sense of gratitude. She met her deteriorating health head on, challenging herself to learn new skills and find new creative endeavors. Carol lived life joyously; her bright smile, sense of humor, and love for others remained steadfast throughout the 28 years of her debilitating disease.
Carol is survived by her mother, Betty Mulkey Hines of Rock Hill, SC; brother Whitney Hines (Martha) of Rock Hill, SC; sister Melissa Hines Monroe (Max) of Easley, SC; niece Maris J. Monroe of Easley, SC; and lifelong friend, Dr. Susan McBrayer Demchak of Rock Hill, SC.
Carol was preceded in death by her father Whitney Donald Hines; aunts Josephine Mulkey Cheney, Margaret Mulkey Johnson, Billie Mulkey Rogers, and Jean Robbins Hines; uncles John Alton Hines Jr. and Lorenza Harold Hines; and cousins Terry Jerome Davis and Lee Harmon Biddix.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Thursday, September 5 at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Rock Hill. The family will receive friends after the service. Burial will be at Springhill Memorial Gardens in Chesnee, SC with a graveside service at 3pm on Friday, September 6.
In addition, the family would like to extend deepest heartfelt gratitude to the countless nurses, therapists, and caregivers that provided Carol invaluable home health services throughout her journey with MS. Their skilled, compassionate care and dedication to Carol’s health and quality of life has been a tremendous blessing for Carol and for our family. Particular thanks to Emily Snipes, Victoria Youngblood, Joel Camp, and the Hospice Team at Providence Care of Rock Hill. Thank you!
