ROCK HILL – William (Bill) Morris Landers, Sr., 87, passed away at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House on February 27, 2023 after a short illness. He was the son of the late James Buck Landers and Melvina Payne Landers of Asheville, NC.
Bill was born on March 2, 1935, on his family’s farm in Walnut, NC. He was part of a large family and was the only sibling to graduate from college. Bill was a three- sport varsity athlete at Clemson College and graduated in 1957. His athletic and scholastic abilities afforded him the advantage of achieving a college degree and that is something of which he was immensely proud.
Bill worked in the textile industry at the beginning of his career and while he was raising his family. In 1981, he and his wife, Jo Ann Bart Landers, bought Lane’s Interiors and were co-owners in their thriving business. Bill enjoyed the design side of the business and enjoyed collaborating with his customers as they came to them for guidance. Bill enjoyed his work so much that he worked long past “retirement” age.
Bill was an avid golfer. He was also a club champion at the Rock Hill Country Club in the 1970’s. Bill also enjoyed being active in youth sports when he was raising his children. He coached many of his children’s teams at the YMCA and Little League. In his later years, he enjoyed working in his yard and surveying his handiwork as he rode on his lawnmower.
Bill was a member of Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church for many years. He lovingly donated his talents from his job to serve and give to his church.
Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, William (Bill) Morris Landers, Jr. Bill is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Bart Landers; his son, Bobby Landers (Karen) of Fort Mill, his daughter, Mary Lawrence Prince (David) of Rock Hill; and his stepdaughter, Holly Hare Hudgens (Mike) of Rock Hill.
