Betty Jean Caskey Whitley (Jean) 89, of Rock Hill, Sc passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Clemson Heritage in Clemson SC.  She was born on November 5, 1934 to the late James Benjamin Caskey and Etta Lucille Adams Caskey in Lancaster, South Carolina.

A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at Rawlinson Road Baptist Church with Pastor Howard Ellis officiating.  The family will be holding visitation from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 209 Flint Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC in the Whitley plot.

Jean was a graduate of Fort Mill High School and a graduate of the York General School of Nursing where she received her registered nurse degree.  After completion of her degree, she started her nursing career at Fort Mill Family Practice.  Jean later worked at York General Hospital on the labor and delivery floor for 20 plus years.  After leaving her work at York General Hospital, she pursued a career in occupational health nursing at Duke Power and later at Hoechst Celanese.

After her retirement, Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s athletic activities and dance productions.  She also enjoyed traveling with her husband to numerous National parks to explore America’s beauty and walking the beaches along the South Carolina coastline.

Jean was a member of Rawlinson Road Baptist Church in Rock Hill and a former member of First Baptist Church of Fort Mill where she taught second graders for many years.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, William James Whitley.  She is survived by her two daughters Alison Whitley Hearl (David Cooper) of Seneca, SC and Sally Whitley Slough (Marty Irvin) of Rock Hill, SC. Her grandchildren, Matthew William Hearl of Chesapeake, Va., Jonathan (Ashley) Hearl of Central, SC, Caroline Whitley Slough of Rock Hill, SC and Andrew David Hearl of Charleston, SC; and her brother-in-law Allie Whitley (Pat) of Fort Mill. SC. As well as her many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff at Clemson Heritage and Visiting Angels who assisted in ministering to her needs in recent months.
