York, S.C. – Mrs. Ann Hope Mitchell, 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024 in Charlotte, N.C. surrounded by her family.
Born in York County, Mrs. Mitchell was the daughter of the late Edgar Claude Hope and the late Mary Hester Doggett Hope. She spent her life as a loving wife and mother. She was an avid gardener, a talented cook and often showered her community with her gifts – her apple pie was a special treat. She was a faithful Christian and a long-time member of Adnah United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, was Chairwoman of the Bereavement Committee and loved working in Vacation Bible School each year. She retired from York School District after many years of service as an aide.
Mrs. Mitchell cared deeply for her family. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, W. Clyde Mitchell and their five children: Beth Howe, Bill (Marie) Mitchell, Don (Angela) Mitchell, Thomas (Tracy) Mitchell, and David (Judy) Mitchell all of York, S.C. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Kelly (Jeff) Hatchell, Donny (Holli) Mitchell, Jacob (Olivia) Mitchell, Kathryn (Brandon) Green, Henry (Amarillo) Mitchell, Wesley Mitchell, Sara (Aaron) Duncan, Mary Lyn (Clay) Barnette, Ethan (Kenley) Mitchell, Sawyer Mitchell; and, seven great-grandchildren: Jacob Hatchell, Ella Cogan, Walker Mitchell, Hunter Mitchell, Elloree Hatchell, James Green, and Eli Duncan. She was sadly preceded in death by her granddaughter, Jessica Mitchell, and son-in-law, Gene Howe.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 14, 2024 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2024 at Adnah United Methodist Church, 1 Adnah Drive, Rock Hill, S.C. with Reverend David McManus officiating. The burial will be in Adnah Methodist Church Cemetery following the service.
