Rock Hill, SC – Mr. James Edward Auten, Sr., 79, passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill.
The graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Grandview Memorial Park, 401 Hollis Lakes Road, Rock Hill, SC with Reverend Jerry Devinney officiating.
Born in Rock Hill, Mr. Auten was the son of the late James B Auten and the late Sadie Hawkins Auten. He was a grocery manager for many years and owner/operator of Hour Best Services Trucking. He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church.
Mr. Auten is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Parker Auten; three sons, Eddie Auten of Rock Hill, Chuck Auten of Moore, SC, Mark Auten of Rock Hill; his brother, Herbert M (Jean) Auten of Rock Hill; two sisters, Mary Ruth (Steve) Oates of Rock Hill, and Peggy (Jerrell) Williams of Rock Hill; eight grandchildren, Jamie Auten, Ashley (Scottie) Allen, Amber (Andrew) Bullard, Chase (Danielle) Auten, Bradley Auten, Katie Floyd; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Kierstyn, Channing Tinley, Mollie, Ariel, Alexis, and Axton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James Edward Auten’s name to Lakewood Baptist Church, Building Fund, 3520 Mount Gallant Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
