Ricky Lambert Shipman, 68, of Fort Lawn, South Carolina, passed away on November 4, 2024.
Ricky was born on April 18, 1956, in Rock Hill, SC, to Thomas and Georgie Shipman. He was one of nine children and grew up on the family farm, where he learned the value of hard work from an early age. Alongside his siblings and parents, Ricky spent his childhood tending to livestock, bailing hay, and helping manage the farm. Family was always at the heart of his life, and Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition that brought everyone together.
As an adult, Ricky took great joy in spending time with his family, taking annual trips to Lake Lure, The Bahamas, Myrtle Beach, and the mountains—places that hold many treasured memories for him and his family. As a skilled welder, Ricky spent much of his adult life as the owner of a fabrication and erection company, a business he proudly passed down to his son.
Ricky loved hunting and anything that kept him outdoors. He also loved taking trips to the mountains whenever he could get away. He was a man of his word, who believed in helping others whenever he could. Known for his infectious laugh and playful teasing, he brought joy to those around him and will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Ricky is survived by his three children: Kim Freeman (Robbie), Ricky Shipman (Amber), and Robbie Shipman; six siblings: Ray Shipman, Joyce Rockholt, Fred Shipman (Janet), Janet Rice (Alan), Ruth McCall, and Alvin Shipman; six grandchildren: Drue Shipman, Ethan Shipman, Katie Freeman, Zoey Shipman and Luke Freeman, as well as many nieces and nephews, and special friend, Linda.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Georgie Shipman, and two sisters, Margaret Osborne and Tina Johnson.
