Rock Hill, SC – Leoda Eubanks Starnes, 99, passed away peacefully at her home with her two sons by her side, on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
Leoda was born to the late Reddick Boyd Eubanks and Martha Ellie Knight Eubanks on April 12, 1925, in Jefferson, SC. She was a remarkable woman who had love for life, her family, and friends. She took great joy in entertaining and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was known for playing jokes on her family and had an infectious laugh that filled the room. She had a passion for gardening and baking. Her green thumb turned every garden she touched into a haven of beauty. She also delighted friends and family with her delicious baked goods. Her faith led her to become an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. There, she was a cherished participant in the Wesley Fellowship class and Margaret Hensley circle. Leoda’s dedication, warmth, and spirited contributions to her family, friends, church, and community left an incredible mark. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Leoda is survived by her sons, Johnny L. Starnes (Kathy), and Ronnie W. Starnes (Terry); her grandchildren, Michelle Conner (Doug), Wendy Scott (Brian), Crystal Sliva (Dan), Christopher Starnes (Lisa), Jason Starnes (Leslie), and Matthew Starnes (Lindsey); her great-grandchildren, Ryan Langley (Sarah), Bailee Conner, Brandie Starck, Cheyenne Starnes, Tyler Starnes, Gavin Sliva, Emery Sliva, Abby Starnes, and Miller Starnes; her great-great-grandchild, Kensley Ella Langley; and her two surviving sisters, Sadie Jordan and Carolyn Douglas.
She is preceded in death by her late parents; her son, Gary Starnes; her two husbands, Fred Kirkley of Jefferson, SC and her second husband, Roy B. Starnes of Rock Hill, SC; her four brothers, David Eubanks, John Eubanks, Adam Eubanks, and Carl Eubanks; and two sisters, Eufalla Rollins and Ethel Graves.
A funeral service for Leoda will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2697 Heckle Boulevard, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, prior to the service, from 12:00 PM – 1:45 PM, at Cornerstone United Methodist Church.
The burial will follow the service at Laurelwood Cemetery, 143 Laurel Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730.
