Lieutenant Lauren Ashleigh Galloway, 39, passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2024.
A Celebration of Lauren’s life will take place at 11 am on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Impact Church, 5115 Old York Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery with full honors.
Lauren was a native of Sumter, SC. She worked diligently to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. She was a leader and a mentor to many throughout her 12-year career with the Tega Cay Police Department. Lauren’s ability to be non-judgmental, genuinely kind and encouraging to others made her the perfect teacher. Her peers often reached out to her for her support, wisdom and caring heart. In her role as instructor with the Training Unit, Lauren worked with new officers from their date of hire until their first solo day on patrol. She also enjoyed her work with the 911 Driving School. In 2016, she became a classroom and driving instructor and examiner. In this program, she shaped the lives of young drivers’ by teaching them safety on the road. Lauren also enjoyed being in the outdoors. She especially enjoyed visiting the Whitewater Center.
Lauren is survived by her loving wife, Shay Marie Thompson-Galloway, her parents, Robert Eugene Galloway, Jr. and Kimberly Kay Jackson Galloway of Sumter, SC; her brothers, Clayton Walker Galloway of W. Columbia, SC and Christopher Jackson Galloway of Charlotte, NC and their respective spouses; her paternal grandfather, Robert Eugene Galloway, Sr. of Sumter, SC; her precious nieces, Hazel Jean Galloway, June Jennings Galloway and new baby, Priscilla Rose Galloway. Lauren is also survived by her in laws, Pat Thompson and Ed Thompson; her sisters-in-law, Katie “Klue” Chapman and Erin Everett and brother-in-law, Jay Thompson and their respective spouses; and numerous beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Virginia “Jenny” Jackson (G Ma), maternal grandfather, Van Hugh “Buck” Jackson (G Dad), and paternal grandmother, Betty Fickling Galloway. Lauren was well-loved, supported and encouraged by her brothers and sisters of the Tega Cay Police Department and they will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to TCPD Camp Cadet, which develops relationships between the youth of our community and the Police Department or to Holiday with Heroes, which pairs children in the community with a Police or Firefighter to help shop for Christmas.
