Debra “Debby” Cooper Smith, 60, of Rock Hill, SC passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2024
in her home. Debby had many wonderful friends and family who loved her dearly and her huge
heart was recognized by everyone she met.
Debby was the daughter of Gerome Cooper Sr. and the late Helen Bowden Cooper. She was a
Bandys High School graduate of the Class of 1981. After high school, she worked at several
textile companies, restaurants, and a telecommunications company. Later in her life, she
became a homemaker. Debby was of the Baptist faith. Even though she was ill most of her life,
Debby fought daily to live life to the best of her ability. She loved to cook and always made large
meals for family gatherings. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother,
daughter, sister, and friend. She will be missed by all her family and close friends.
In addition to her mother, Debby was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William
& Mildred Bowden and her paternal grandparents, Louie Cooper & Ida Mae Smith Chastain, a
host of aunts and uncles, and special pets over the years.
In addition to her father, Debby is survived by her husband, Animal Smith of the home; her
daughter, Stephanie Josey Copeland, Husband Chuck, of Denver; her son, Steven Michael
Josey, Wife Kassondra, of Caldwell, ID; her sisters, Cindy Drye, Husband Doug, of Mocksville,
Teresa Cates, Husband Mike, of Hickory; her brother, Gerome “Gerry” Cooper Jr., Wife Monica
of Maiden; three grandsons, Noah Copeland, Jett Copeland, & Stetson Josey; her aunt,
Angeline Holland of Seneca, SC, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
