Mrs. Fischer was born on January 19, 1939 to the late Robert Howard Mitchell and Laura “Susie” Richardson Mitchell, in Williston, SC. After growing up in a small-town community, she continued her journey by attending The University of South Carolina. While at the university, she graduated with a bachelor of science degree, became a lifelong gamecock fan, and met her husband of 62 years, Jim Fischer. She fondly remembers when she met Jim as stating “that was the end of that” in terms of looking for her spouse. During her career, Mrs. Fischer served as a court reporter for the 16th Judicial Circuit of South Carolina. After serving the state for many years, she retired in 1999. In her private life, Janet was an excellent shagger and loved to cook for family get-togethers. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing any form of card or board game. Before her diagnosis and progressive illness of Multiple Sclerosis, she was very athletic and always remained very active. In sickness and in health, she always prioritized and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was an exceptional wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers and medical professionals who helped Janet, over the years, in her battle with MS.
Mrs. Fischer is survived by her children, Kim Fischer and James Allen “Al” Fischer, Jr. and wife, Susan; her grandson, James Allen “Jay” Fischer, III all of Rock Hill; her sister, Ann Kelly of West Columbia, SC; and a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen “Jim” Fischer; her brother, David A. “Bud” Mitchell; and her brother-in-law, Ken Kelly.
