Rock Hill, SC – Julian T. “Joe” Ratliff, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from 12:30 pm-1:50 pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 830 North Jones Ave, Rock Hill, SC. The service will be held at 2:00 pm at the church, with Dr. Roger Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
Born in Cason Oldfield, NC, Joe was the son of the late James F. Ratliff and the late Lena Shoemaker Ratliff. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Retha M. Ratliff who was fondly known as “Shorty”.
Joe was a World War II Veteran, proudly serving his country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Corps. He served in the occupation of Japan after the war ended. Joe worked as a telephone cable splicer/contractor, working for many different telephone companies across the eastern United States. He loved farming and sharing his pecans with friends and neighbors. Joe was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are his two sons, Darold Ratliff (Karla) and Barry Ratliff (Jan); sister, Clara Hendrick of Florence, SC; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Joe’s name to Calvary Baptist Church, 830 North Jones Ave., Rock Hill, SC 29730.
