Rock Hill – Ernest Lee “Buck” Baker went on to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Born on August 4,1943 to Ernest and Sarah Baker, Buck was 80 years old at the time of death. He is survived by his wife Nancy; his son Geoffrey and wife Molly; his son Jamey and wife Patty; and his seven grandchildren. Buck was a loving husband and an incredible father who exemplified what a man should be. He loved God and family; he was tough as nails, but kind. He was Nancy, Geoffrey, and Jamey’s biggest supporter.
Buck retired from Continental General Tire, and he also spent more than twenty years coaching high school athletes. Buck touched the lives of hundreds of teenagers through the game of basketball. Known as “Coach” by many, his competitive nature, charisma, leadership, and selfless love for those under him left his mark. Throughout his coaching career, Buck won many championships and individual coaching awards; but he always deflected any praise onto his players. Buck’s encouraging nature, wit, and optimistic spirit personified “the light of the world.”
A visitation will be held for Buck on Thursday, May 16 from 6-7:30pm at Greene Funeral Home, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill, SC.
