Jean Haire of Rock Hill passed away on Tuesday, April 30 at Piedmont Medical Center.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Donald; her sisters Laura, Magdalene, and brothers W.M. and Johnny.
Jean was a career woman working hard for over 40 years at Belk in Rock Hill to provide for her family. In the 1950’s she worked as a Buyer for Belk and traveled to New York City for Fashion Week each year. During one of those trips, in 1957, she visited Yankee Stadium to see Billy Graham preach. She eventually became a Manager for Belk and worked the remainder of her career at the Rock Hill store.
Jean’s greatest joy in life was her family. She met her beloved husband as a young child, but they would fall in love later in life at Rock Hill High School. They were married in December of 1952, and had their daughter, Debra, 11 months later in October of 1953. Despite the business of life, Jean always prioritized her family, and loved being a mother and wife. Jean would eventually become a grandmother to Josh and Jacob. Soon after becoming “Grandmommie” she would retire from Belk and become a full-time grandmother, attending all her grandchildren’s football games, track meets, and choir concerts. The high point of her year would always be family vacation which she continued to lead her family in prioritizing this trip every year, even this past one. This past year her joy was made even greater by getting to welcome her first granddaughter, Mollie, when Jacob was married.
In her final years of life, Jean cherished her time at College Park Baptist Church in Rock Hill, where she would learn about and serve Jesus with her many good friends. One of the many ways that she served at College Park was going with a good friend to visit and pray with individuals who were in skilled nursing facilities, or couldn’t leave their homes. Jean would want anyone reading this to know how much Jesus loves them, and that He can be their Savior today.
The family will be hosting a graveside service at Grandview Memorial Park on S Cherry Road in Rock Hill on Thursday, May 9 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made in her honor to College Park Baptist Church in Rock Hill.
