Camden, SC – Mrs. Sue McDonald Ferguson, 73, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732 with a Celebration of Sue’s Life at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC 29732. The service will be live-streamed at www.greenefuneralhome.net.
Born in Gastonia, NC, Sue was the daughter of the late Jackson D. McDonald and the late Frances Rebecca Brackett McDonald. She was a 1968 graduate of Rock Hill High School and attended Winthrop College. She married her high school sweetheart, Marion Dewitt Ferguson on October 3, 1970 in Rock Hill.
Sue worked for many years at Parrish’s Flower Land in Rock Hill where she learned to be a florist. She later opened her own shop called Susie’s Corner. Sue also helped her husband run Dewitt’s Market and Market on Herlong. She later worked as a Mortgage Loan Officer at Allen Tate Mortgage Company and as a Personal Banker at Wells Fargo. Sue enjoyed years of teaching young children in Sunday school and Mission Friends while attending West End Baptist Church and Rawlinson Road Baptist Church in Rock Hill and then after moving, to First Baptist Church of Camden where she was a member since 2010. Once she became Meme, her greatest joy came in spending as much time as possible with her three grandchildren.
Sue is survived by her husband of 53 years, Marion Dewitt Ferguson, her son, Brian Dewitt Ferguson (Bonnie); daughter, Allison Hope Drakeford (Morgan); three grandchildren, Olivia Frances Drakeford, Mary Elise Drakeford, and Brooks Coleman Ferguson; her brother, R. Dean McDonald (Delores), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws. She was preceded in death by her brother, Paul David McDonald and sister-in-law, Barbara Adams McDonald.
