Rock Hill, SC – Clarke Barrett (Barry) Poole departed this life on April 27, 2024. Barry was born on December 5, 1942, in Savannah, Georgia to Clarke and Ethel Poole. He graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1961 and from the University of North Carolina Wilmington majoring in Biology and Chemistry. He loved birds and conducted a bird study on Bald Head Island, NC while in college. He loved being outside and living near the water.

Barry had a diverse career and retired from real estate sales on Edisto Island, South Carolina where he owned and operated his own company. Barry was a loyal listener to Coast to Coast late night radio and WBT Charlotte. He was a frequent caller to both and became recognized as “Barry from Rock Hill”. He had many friends and stayed in touch with them all.

In 2004, he married Martha Lyle and they lived happily together on Lake Wylie for 20 years. Their home was filled with love, laughter and beautiful sunsets.

In addition to his parents, Barry was predeceased by his loving sister, Barbara Poole Peterson, brother-in-law, Ken Davis and sister-in-law, Carol Lyle. He is survived by his wife, Martha; nephew, Ryan Peterson and family, wife Danita and niece and nephew, Ellen and Kent of Altoona, Iowa. His brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Gene Peterson, wife, Holly and bonus daughter, Virginia of Greenville, SC. Barry is also survived by his bonus children, Nancy and Harry Johnson of Rock Hill and Michael and Lorrie Camp of Taylors, SC; bonus grandchildren, Kathryn and Mike Carreon of Jacksonville, Fl; Max and Sara Johnson of Rock Hill; Morgan Camp of Los Angeles, CA; David Camp of Clemson, SC; McKenzie Camp of Taylors, SC; and Aaron Camp of Taylors, SC; sisters and brother-in-law, Nancy Davis of Rock Hill; Isabel and Kipper Tabb of Duluth, GA; and Dave Lyle of Summerville, SC; many grand nieces and nephews  and his former wife and friend, Margery Garrabrant of Wilmington, NC.

Barry’s life was rich was family and friends. Special thanks to friends, John Barnes and Roger Baldwin who got him around after he lost his vision.

Barry had a love for all animals and he especially loved his cats. The family requests memorials may be made in Barry’s name to FYCAS, PO Box 304, York, SC 29745, which is a cat rescue & adoption group.

A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm at First ARP Church, 201 East White Street, Rock Hill, SC 29730 with Pastor Jon Oliphant officiating. Visitation will follow in the church parlor.
