Rock Hill, SC – Brenda Dawkins, aged 83, peacefully passed away in her home in Rock Hill on April 25, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 pm at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel at 2133 Ebenezer Road. A celebration of Brenda’s life will take place on Wednesday May 1st at 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the at Grandview Memorial Park – Cherry Road, 620 S. Cherry Road, Rock Hill, SC.
Brenda was born in Rock Hill, SC on October 11, 1940. Growing up in Rock Hill, she attended Rock Hill High School, where she excelled academically. Throughout her life, Brenda ventured on various journeys, ultimately leading her to embrace a new life in recovery. In 1984, she underwent a personal transformation, igniting her passion for counseling. Pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Winthrop University, Brenda embarked on a career at Keystone Substance Abuse of York County. There, she founded Keystone’s Woman of Substance Abuse Program, dedicating herself to empowering women in her community to embrace recovery.
Brenda’s influence was profound, touching countless lives and leaving an indelible mark on her community. Her keen intellect and gentle demeanor endeared her to all who knew her. With a successful career as a substance abuse counselor, Brenda made significant contributions to the well-being of others, embodying compassion, and dedication throughout her endeavors. Beyond her professional pursuits, Brenda cherished her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, treasuring moments spent with loved ones. In her leisure time, she found solace in the pages of books, fostering her passion for reading.
Preceded in death by her husband Harold Dawkins; her parents, James Benjamin Ferguson, and Evelyn Garner Ferguson; her brother Jamie Ferguson; and her grandson Chas Troxel, Brenda is survived by her siblings Miriam Ferrell, Dewitt Ferguson, and Danny Ferguson; along with her four children, Brad McGuire, Myrna McGuire, Amanda Wheeler, and Dalton Wheeler, and her grandchildren Brittany Hoffman and Jenna McGuire Powell.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Serenity Club of York County (P.O. Box 1144 Rock Hill, SC 29731), an organization close to Brenda’s heart, dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey to recovery.
Brenda will be remembered with deep affection for her unwavering commitment to helping others and her lasting impact on the lives she touched.
